Report claims Spotify will launch $100 in-car music player
Claims that Spotify’s first hardware will be an in-car speaker aren’t new. In fact, they first emerged last April, after some Spotify users spotted in-app ads for such a device, possibly with a built-in 4G connection for streaming, and voice controls. The anticipated launch later that month did not materialise, but now the rumours are back – and from the Financial Times, no less. “The music-streaming pioneer is planning to roll out a voice-controlled in-car music player later this year, according to people familiar with its plans,” reported the FT this weekend. “Spotify’s device will sync to car stereos via Bluetooth connection, as well as preset buttons that correspond to Spotify playlists… The experience would be similar to how they might access music on Amazon’s Echo speakers but uses the company’s own in-house ‘Spotify Voice’ system.” The report adds that Spotify will charge around $100 for the device when it goes on sale.
