Ariana Grande Breaks Apple Music Day-One Streaming Records
After a very-public row with the organisers of the Grammys, it’s back to business as usual for Ariana Grande: breaking records on music-streaming services. Apple Music announced that Grande’s new album ‘thank u, next’ has “shattered” several of its records for day-one streams, albeit with no specific numbers. “Less than 24 hours since its release, thank u, next officially became the #1 global pop album debut on Apple Music ever. The album has also catapulted Ariana Grande into a league of her own, scoring the highest global debut for any female artist in any genre ever on Apple Music,” announced Apple, which has also been promoting a video featuring Grande as one of its ‘Memoji’ characters. Other streaming services haven’t yet put out any numbers for ‘thank u, next’, although at the time of writing on Spotify, the album’s 10 non-single tracks have 232.5m collective streams, plus 543.6m for the title track and 223.5m for ‘7 rings’, which were both out before last Friday’s album release. Meanwhile, three days after the release of her latest video ‘break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored’ it has 44m YouTube views.
