Victor Osimhen Included in Nigeria Squad for AFCON Qualifiers

Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has selected striker Victor Osimhen in Nigeria’s 24-man roster for the opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. The Galatasaray forward earns his place in the group despite currently recovering from an injury that kept him out of his club’s recent competitive fixtures.

The Super Eagles will open their qualifying run on home soil, hosting Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on September 25. The team will subsequently travel to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau on September 29 for their second match of the international window.

Squad Returns and New Inclusions

The squad is reinforced by the return of Brentford defender Benjamin Fredrick, who rejoins the national team setup following several months out of action due to a knee injury. In attack, Tolu Arokodare has also earned a recall, joining an offensive contingent that features Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, and Akor Adams.
