Real Madrid Criticise Refereeing in Derby Loss to Atlético

Real Madrid have voiced strong dissatisfaction with match officials following their 2–1 defeat against rivals Atlético Madrid in the Madrid derby at the Metropolitano stadium.

In an official post-match report, the club delivered a sharp critique of referee Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias, describing his officiating as a dreadful performance that played a decisive part in determining the contest’s final outcome.

The club focused their grievances on two major disciplinary decisions during the opening half. Real Madrid argued that Cristian “Cuti” Romero should have been sent off for stepping on Jude Bellingham’s knee. Despite Ortiz Arias reviewing the challenge on the pitchside monitor, the referee decided against a dismissal and issued only a yellow card.

Furthermore, Real Madrid highlighted a separate first-half challenge by Kang-In Lee on Federico Valverde. The club maintained that Lee also deserved a red card for stamping on Valverde’s left ankle, an action that went unpunished by ejection.

According to the club’s statement, both non-call decisions heavily influenced the momentum of the game, which was ultimately settled in Atlético Madrid’s favour during the second half.
