Carlos Queiroz Leaves Ghana Post After Two AFCON Qualifier Defeats

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with head coach Carlos Queiroz by mutual agreement following a difficult opening run in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Queiroz’s second stint at the helm of the Black Stars ended abruptly after just two competitive matches. The Portuguese manager formally stepped back into the role on September 3, but back-to-back losses in the September international window quickly curtailed his tenure.

Disappointing Start to Qualifying Campaign

Ghana’s qualification campaign began on a troubling note with a 2-0 defeat against Ivory Coast. The squad was unable to recover in their subsequent fixture, falling 4-2 to Gambia and sealing an early exit for the manager.

The GFA officially confirmed the separation on Thursday, explaining that discussions between both parties led to a shared conclusion that ending the partnership was in the best interest of the national side and Ghanaian football as a whole.

Following the announcement, Queiroz addressed his departure, remarking that he had returned to the Black Stars with the objective of strengthening the squad and contributing to the technical growth and development of the nation’s players.

For Ghana’s entertainment and creative industries, national football fixtures remain key focal points that drive cultural engagement and live viewing events. Rapid leadership changes within the Black Stars often influence public enthusiasm as fans and cultural stakeholders monitor the team’s trajectory toward major tournaments.
